Betty is a member of
Dance Masters of America, Inc., an international organization of
dance teachers founded in 1884. Members must pass entrance
examinations in each subject they teach, and must follow a code of
strict professional ethics. Through this DMA membership, Betty and
her older students are able to take advantage of seminars and
workshops held throughout the country that are conducted by
well-known, nationally acclaimed dance teachers and choreographers.
Classes at the studio are small
with a element of personalized instruction geared to the needs of
the individual. Instruction is keyed to the individual student's
progress. He or she is never advanced before completely mastering
the fine points of elementary techniques.
Advanced
students act as assistants in classes when they are deemed ready by
Miss Tillotson. This is an "on the job" training that can be
invaluable in later years. Like learning to drive a car, experience
in actually helping teach a class is absolutely necessary to be a
competent and dedicated dancing teacher.
